Reopening requirements

Reopening requirements

Helping our practitioners to understand and implement the requirements for safe reopening of their crèches has been our focus over the past few weeks. We are so grateful to one of our long standing supporters for printing and binding the guidelines from theDepartment of Social Development for each crèche. Our trainers are working carefully through these with their practitioners, and helping them to develop sustainable daily routines to keep everyone safe.

Incredible fundraising effort!

Incredible fundraising effort!

Our incredible 8 Mile team raised a whopping R498 293 at the Midmar Mile this year! 20% of this gets divided between the minor charities associated with this event (they each received a total of R30 000 from all of the major charities), and the rest will enable us to continue to make a significant impact in early childhood education. To all the swimmers, donors and sponsors, THANK YOU for your unbelievable generosity. Wayne, Di and the Seals’ Swimming Club, we are so grateful that you organise such a world class event that enables us to raise these greatly appreciated funds. Here’s to 2021!

Thoko, one of our ECD trainers, chatted to Zeni, an Instagram infuencer, live on Instagram today. She spoke about how she, and our other 4 trainers, are helping adults throughout Africa to make learning-through-play opportunities happen for children under 5.

Winter Warmth

Winter Warmth

A huge thank you to all the wonderful knitters and crocheters who have made sure that all our little ones are warm and cozy this winter with their beautiful beanies. Special thanks to the ladies who have made lots and LOTS of beanies, including Sheilagh Erskine, Christine Britton, Janine Finch, Carolyn Milsom, and the ladies from the Wesley Methodist and All Saints churches.

Mask Donations

Mask Donations

In order for the creches to reopen safely under the Covid-19 restrictions, all adults and children over 2 need to have at least one mask to wear. Our mask numbers were given a wonderful boost with donations of 75 kiddies’ masks from Hilton Clothing and 50 practitioners’ masks from LT Printers and Gianotti Branding this Mandela Day. A number of individual donors also made lots of masks for us, so we will be able to issue each creche with enough stock to open safely with their restricted numbers. We are so grateful to all of you who have given so generously.
