Our toddlers had great fun developing their pre-writing skills by drawing with their finger in a polystyrene tray of flour. This is such a lovely way to get little ones to start feeling what it is like to “write” without holding a pencil. We also get our Grade RR’S and R’s to do this with shapes and the letters of their names. It is much more forgiving than using a crayon or pencil, because if they make a mistake, they just smooth out the flour and try again.
This is also a lovely tactile activity and you will see that the younger children like to spend ages just feeling the texture as their brains process the new information.
